If I say "Tebow," it is by far one of the most recognizable names in the country, if not the world right now. Unless you live under a rock, you know I am talking about Denver Broncos quarterback ("QB") Tim Tebow. I am going to put it out there, I am a huge fan for obvious reasons, we serve the same Lord. However, I almost always root for the underdog as well. This may also be why he is such a polarizing figure. Whenever people say he can't, he does. For example, the Pittsburgh Steelers boast the number one defense in the league and people were saying Tebow can't throw against them. Just the week before he completed only six of twenty-two passes for sixty yards against the lowly Chiefs. What does he do; he goes 10-21 316 yards against the Steelers and wins in the playoffs. His next game is against the mighty New England Patriots which will surely be one of the most watched playoff games in history.
My real reason for this post is the video clip below. Saturday Night Live recently did a skit on Tebow that I found interesting. Take a look and more after the jump.

First of all I thought the skit was funny. I am not going to get into the whole discussion about Mormonism and the fact that "Jesus" in the skit says that he prays to Matt Prader. You judge that for yourself. The real thing I want to discuss is "Jesus'" disposition toward "Tebow." The point of the skit is that Tebow is way to over the top as far as his love for Jesus and the fact that he shares his faith the way he does. So "Jesus" in this skit is telling "Tebow" to tone it down a notch. There in lies a fundamental flaw. The bible says in Deuteronomy 6:5, "You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might." We can never love the Lord enough and so even Tebow can still love him more (although he is doing a great job of it publically). It's impossible to give God the amount of love he gives us. All God ask us to do is give Him our best and that is what Tebow is doing. Another scripture that comes to mind when I think about Tebow is Colossians 3:23-24, "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward..." I don't think there is anyone that works harder than Tebow at his craft. The Lord blesses him because of these two scriptures (and for other reasons too I'm sure). Tebow lives these scriptures out in his daily life and if we choose to live out the word God will bless as well.
Lastly, I want to address the Tebow haters. He has handled them way better than I would have. Jesus had haters as well, but understood his mission and purpose. As does Mr. Tebow and thus instead of lashing back at his critics, he allows God to address them through the marvelous works He has performed through Tebow. Romans 12:19 says "Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, 'Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.'” I live in Georgia, so Tebow, a former University of Florida QB is a hated man here. I have even heard people here say, "It's not Tebow winning, he's not a good QB, it's divine intervention." Well the bible tell us to trust in the Lord and lean not to your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5). I'd rather have divine intervention working for me then my own skill any day, you are guaranteed to win. Look at Tebow's stats against the Steelers noted above, 316 yards, 31.6 yards per completion, the tv rating for the game was 31.6. This led to a flood of google searches for John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." How many people who have never read that did so because of what Tebow did. Does God care about football; probably not, but He has decided to use Tim Tebow to show this world that He loves those who love Him. No matter what our job is, when we trust in the Lord, He will give us success, it was He who gave us that talent in the first place.
Note: All scriptures used are from the English Standard Version (ESV).
This is awesome Sterling! Our love for God should be greater than our love for the world (or what the world says about our love). What you write in your article reminds me of this. If Tebow can show love for his God on the World's Center Stage, than I can show love for my God on the small stage He provides me too!
